7 Deadly Detox Diet Foods to Avoid

Now that you have convinced yourself to go on a detox diet, what foods should you avoid?

The foods and beverages we are going to discuss in a minute are deadly in the sense that if consumed too much, they can result in unwanted side effects and cause medical conditions that can shorten your life.

Before getting into the specifics details of which detox foods to avoid and which foods to eat, you must first consider this important fact...

You Are What You Eat

The old adage “You are what you eat” is more important today that ever before.

Let me explain...

The environment we live in today is full of toxins in every sense. Pollutants and toxic substances are everywhere. They are in the air we breathe, the water we drink, the clothing we wear and the foods we eat making our bodies toxic and unhealthy.

I say this not to scare you to death, but to inform you and make you aware of the world we live in.

Detox Foods You Should Avoid

Here are the sample detox foods and beverages (listed in alphabetical order) that you should avoid while you are on your detox diet.

  1. Alcohol- No I’m not going to tell you not to drink, because to do so is unrealistic. What I want to impress upon you is that your daily intake of alcohol should be minimized. Drink too much alcohol and your body has to work overtime to remove these harmful toxins.
  2. Artificial Sweeteners - These most often overlooked sugars can really sabotage your detox, dieting and weight loss effort. Nowadays, artificial sweeteners are found in many of the store bought products you consume so be careful to check that these harmful sugars are not included -- eliminating all commercially produced sugars is okay to.
  3. Coffee - One or two cups of coffee a day normally will not result in harmful side effects. However excessive drinking of coffee causes your body to burn unnecessary energy trying to counter a hormone imbalance produced by all the coffee.
  4. High-Fat Fried Foods - These are the foods we have grown to love like: french fries, potato chips, fried tortillas, fried chicken, fried non-fish seafoods (clams, lobsters, shrimp, oysters) and donuts. These unhealthy foods contain trans fats which clog up your arteries making the detox process more difficult.
  5. Milk - Some of the commercially processed milk sold in stores contains toxic antibiotics and hormones which render the milk of less nutritional value and can be harmful to the body.
  6. Processed Meats - The deli lunch-meats, canned and potted meats we love so much really have little to no nutritional value, also containing harmful toxins. Therefore processed meats should be avoid.
  7. Tuna - This fish comes in many forms including fresh, smoked and canned. Unfortunately tuna fish contains excessive levels of a deadly toxin called mercury. Other high mercury fish such as king mackerel, shark, swordfish and tile fish should be avoided as well.
